Wayside Chapel

Built along Highway 2 in 1962, the Wayside Chapel has welcomed generations of travelers seeking a quiet place to pause, reflect, and begin their journeys through the mountains.

The Wayside Chapel along Highway 2 was built and dedicated on October 12, 1962 by New Hope Fellowship on land donated by Hilkeline Beekman, the same year Seattle hosted the World’s Fair. Though small in size, the chapel has become a meaningful landmark for travelers passing through Sky Valley for generations.

Created as a place to “Pause, Rest and Worship,” the chapel has long offered a moment of quiet reflection for those traveling through the mountains. Over the years, it has been the setting for weddings, vow renewals, proposals, and family traditions that continue to this day.

Many travelers and local families make an annual stop at the chapel before beginning summer road trips or mountain adventures, often pausing to ask for safe journeys before continuing east along Highway 2. Its continued presence reflects both the welcoming spirit of the valley and the traditions shared by those who pass through it.
