Maloney Store

Built in 1893 by Skykomish founder John Maloney, this historic boomtown building once served as the town’s general store and post office and remains one of Skykomish’s most recognizable landmarks.

Constructed in 1893 by town founder John Maloney, this historic building played a central role in the early development of Skykomish. Originally built as a single 30-by-60-foot structure, it housed the town’s general store and post office during a period of rapid growth tied to railroad expansion and mountain industry.

Designed with a classic Western boomtown facade, the building expanded over time as the community grew and prospered. Additional east and west wings were later added, reflecting the increasing importance of Skykomish as a mountain town and transportation hub along the rail corridor.

Today, the building remains one of the community’s most recognizable historic landmarks and is listed on both the National Register of Historic Places and the Washington Heritage Register. More than a century after its construction, the structure continues to serve the community as home to the Skykomish Historical Society, Sky Artworks, Toot Sweet, and the Sit & Spin Laundromat.
